Bataan Memorial Death March On April 10th, 1942, thousands of American and Filipino troops, newly
surrendered to the Japanese and now prisoners-of-war in the Philippines,
began the infamous Bataan Death March. The great majority of thse who started the death march failed to survive it, due to the fiendish tortures of the Japanese guards.

White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico has hosted a memorial march
to honor those that suffered through the Bataan Death March since 1989,
with only 2003 being skipped with the opening of the 2003 Iraq War.
