Hi all! ^^

I’m Mamoru, from Belgium, and I personally play two online RPG games made by a company called HCS, in England. Why I’m posting here is because in the games I play, I belong to teams so strong in game that sometimes we have to wait for the game company to add new content into the game Confused

And the fact is that, after some months like that (playing ,then waiting, then playing again, waiting,…) I decided to create a small maze, turn-based game for my online friends to entertaint them while waiting phases(that was last year, early June). Since then, they played the game, gave me suggestions, and day after day it become bigger and bigger. To a point where one of my “beta testers” suggested me to release that game. And just for fun it’s what I did (under the name “NBMA Online”), and now, well, I’m just waiting for some “outsiders comments” Smile

In fact it has been “online“ since last November, but now it’s stable enough for me to begin speaking about it in specialized sections like this one ^^

SO!, if some of you would be interested in trying it and letting me know what you think about it, I would greatly appreciate it ^^ You can find it here:

Any negative (but constructive) comments would also be more than welcome! ^^

PS: in case of you’d wonder where my nick comes from, it’s from Sailor Moon, the first manga I ever read in its original language Smile

Looks very interesting, a bit like a turn-based multiplayer Rouge/Angband, if I"m correct in saying so.  At least at a first quick glance at the "how to play" section.  Late at night here, but I'll check this out later.

Thank you very much in advance JCXaniris! I personally never played such a game myself (which probably explains why the games you are speaking about do not ring a bell!), just created it "from scratch" with the advices of other players, so things you'll find inside the game are probably "outdated" or not "userfriendly". If it's the case don't hesitate to tell me! As I said to my actual players: bad comments are often better than no comment at all! ^^

Ow! "Working importance" > "Playing importance" => I stop bothering you ^^

rfludwick - Feb. 23, 2011 at 9:05:22am

Sadly, work must take precedence. If I could play games all day, I totally would.

By the way, I just noticed the "Elysium?" in your first post. What does it mean?

Its a source engine that a lot of amateur game makers make there games out of! its quite good, I have used it before myself! Alas it has been many years how ever.

Mamoru-kun - Mar. 6, 2011 at 1:02:52am

Ho I see!  :D Well I never liked games engines like that (even if I haven't seen the one you are speaking about). Far too restrictive, in my opinion :/ By the way, I’ll soon update NBMA to v2.0.0 (probably next week). When it happens I’ll drop a line here ^^

Mamoru-kun - Mar. 12, 2011 at 5:46:31pm

Here we are! ^^ After almost three weeks of hard programming, I've finally released the version 2.0.0 of NBMA Online :) Here is the post I sent to our players in game:

Dear all and everyone! I’m happy to announce you that, after almost three weeks of hard work, the v2.0.0 of NBMA Online is at last available! :D But before speaking about what’s new in this version, I’d like to personally thank shaundoug for his continuous support and testing during this hard programming time. And to thank him properly, I’m happy to send him now a “special reward” created just for him ^^

Now, regarding this update, here is a list of the main changes you’ll find inside:

1) of course, a graphical change which, I hope, will bring us some new players ^^

2) the addition of NBMA Coins, which replace the NBMA points in the Donations section. Those points will permit you to buy “powered” items from the shop and to “powerise” heroic and reward items (powerised items has a 30% bonus in their characteristics, including in their RD when applicable)

3) the addition of “max rounds sessions”: in those sessions you’ll have a given number or rounds to finish it. If the winner of the session succeeds to meet the victory requirements before the rounds timer is over, he’ll earn an additional NBMA points :)

4) and finally, the addition of “single player”, -no NBMA points prize- sessions. Basically you’ll be able to play one single player session a day, but “single player passes” can be bought at shop to increase that number. Also, single player sessions are all “max rounds sessions”, but there are also at shop “single player Sessions Master bribes” which will permit you to increase the max rounds of those single player sessions (and those sessions only)!

Those points, plus some minor/major bugs correction, and you have a full description of the changes made those past three weeks ^^ I hope you’ll like this update! Of course, if it’s not the case, or if you find bugs, don’t hesitate to send me a message in game or to drop a line in the dedicated thread of our forum!

I modified the game "inner locks system", passing from a "files locking system" to a "mutex locking system". If you’re not into computer science, don’t worry if you don’t understand ˆˆ What it means is that under heavy load (playing ultra-fast sessions with multiple players for example), the game should be slightly faster ˆˆ

Ahh, that brings me back to my undergrad days. Semaphores and critical sections... :)

The advantage now is that we don't have to recreate a locking system from scratch: Google -> search for "PHP semaphore" -> that's it, you have a ton of beautiful classes already made for you ^^
