UMvC3 producer discusses the list of characters and the reason behind its disc-based-only update

The recent announcement of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has revealed an updated version of the February released Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, complete with new characters, balances, stages, and modes.

During an interview with Destructoid, UMvC3 producer Ryota Niitsuma discussed questions fans had about this updated release including the reason for a disc-based release and the decision behind which new characters were chosen for the game.

“After the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, there were plans to release DLC. But, as you know, less than a month after the games was released we had the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. That had an impact on everything, and it threw off our whole development schedule. We decided that instead of doing the DLC we could put it all together in one package, add some additional stuff to make it robust and deliver it as a disc.”

When asked how much of the new material was originally planned for Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Niitsuma replied, “About half and half.”

In regard to a leaked list of characters earlier this week, Nittsuma commented that the list is legitimate and as the game comes closer to release date, more details regarding the characters' move sets will be revealed.
