A cheaper PS3 and redesigned Wii are on the way - just in time for the holidays

Sony and Nintendo have announced both a price drop and redesign respectively for their PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii consoles.

Yesterday at Gamescom, Sony announced that the 160 GB PlayStation 3 console would have a new price of $249, almost $50 cheaper than the original price point. The larger, 320 GB console is also set to receive a price drop, at $299.

On Nintendo’s end, a recent announcement found in Official Nintendo Magazine, the Wii console would be getting a redesign for the holiday season. Called the “Wii Family Edition,” this console will feature the console sitting vertically rather than horizontally like previous models. The bundle will also come with a Wiimote, an additional nunchuck accessory, and copies of both Wii Sports and Wii Play. A caveat to this bundle, though: The newest Wii model will not support Gamecube titles like previous versions of the Wii. The new Wii will stay at its $150 price point.
