The next installment in the Vitura Fighter series comes to consoles next summer

Not content to let all the fighting game glory go to Capcom and Namco, Sega has announced it will be bringing the latest edition of its Vitura Fighter series to the states through the release of Vitura Fighter 5: Final Showdown for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation 3 Network in summer 2012.

Virtua Fighter 5: The Final Showdown

Instead of being an updated Vitura Fighter 5 (which was previously released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007), this edition is an overhaul of the game's fighting mechanics, arenas, animations — and balance, and it includes a new character, Jean Kujo, who will be playable for the first time in North America.

This game is also said to be geared toward hardcore fighting fans but will also feature simplified controls for newcomers to the series.

Besides the two console releases for VR5 in America, there have also been two other versions of VR5 released only in arcades: Vitura Fighter 5 R and Vitura Fighter 5 R Version C, which were the first games to introduce both Jean Kujo to the roster along with sumo wrestler Taka-Ashi (who had been absent since Vitura Fighter 3).
